The next competition in the smartphone sector between Samsung and Apple will be Bluetooth. The two companies are expected to launch strategic products using their new Bluetooth technologies in the second half of this year.

According to industry sources on May 9. Samsung Electronics has started the technology development in order to adopt so-called “artificial intelligence (AI) Bluetooth” in its smartphones.

The development project, which is jointly carried out by mobile solution firms and domestic fintech firms, aims to reduce the power consumption of Bluetooth functions. For instance, this is the technology that automatically turns Bluetooth systems on and off when smartphone peripheral devices, such as its 360-degree camera and the Gear VR, are near and away.

Samsung Electronics is developing the Bluetooth technology since it believes that it will play a crucial role in connecting smartphones with smart finance, including automobile and mobile payment system, and smart home in the upcoming era of the Internet of Things. The company will use this technology in its smartphones to be released next year.

Apple is also expected to introduce bluetooth system in the iPhone 7 to be released in the second half of the year. Foreign media reports and blogs predicted that Apple would remove the headphone jack on the iPhone 7 and launch its Bluetooth wireless headphones. The company filed a registration application for trademark dubbed “AirPort” to the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office in the second half of last year. Market sources said that the trademark is for Apple’s next Bluetooth earphone.
