SK Holdings C&C Ltd., the information technology services unit of SK Group, announced on May 9 that it has signed an agreement to form a strategic alliance to IBM Korea to introduce IBM’s Watson cognitive services in South Korea.

The signing ceremony at the IBM headquarters in Manhattan, New York, on May 4 was attended by 20 officials, including SK Holdings C&C CEO Park Jung-ho, IBM Watson General Manager David Kenny, and IBM Korea General Manager Jeffrey Rhoda.

Under the deal, SK Holdings C&C is granted to run IBM Watson in Korea, and both companies will cooperate in marketing and establishing the Watson system.

Also, they will cooperate to create an ecosystem for the nation’s artificial intelligence (AI) industry by combining IBM’s Watson AI platform and SK Holdings C&C’s IT service and Big Data technologies. The two companies plan to preoccupy and lead the domestic cognitive computing market in the future with the strategic partnership in Watson services as well as cloud system.

By creating the healthy ecosystem for the AI industry, we will help them to lead the development of global AI services in all industries," said Park Jung-ho, CEO of SK Holdings C&C.
