Warning from History
Lee Myung-hee, professor of history at Kongju National University and coauthor of the controversial “New Right” history textbook from Kyohak Publishing Co., said on September 11 that the left already has an absolute majority in the ideological fields of education, journalism, and culture.
As a guest lecturer for “the Saenuri Party's Modern and Contemporary History Class,” professor Lee expressed his opinion by saying, “If the current situation continues, Korean society can be structurally overthrown in ten years.”
Lee claimed, “Currently, the left occupies 70% of the education field and the media, 80% of the art world, 90% of the publishing industry, 60% of the academic world, and 70% of the entertainment industry,” adding, “Without any action, it is highly probable that Korean society will be overwhelmingly left-leaning at some point.”
He characterized the recent criticism of the Kyohak textbook as an assault from left-wing forces. Lee noted, “They criticized the textbook even though it has yet to be published. For example, they allege that the textbook describes Ahn Jung-geun as a terrorist, Ryu Kwan-soon as a female bully, and Kim Koo as a member of the Taliban. Members of the Democratic Party agree with the opinion of left-wingers.”
Lee also commented, “Late president Roh Moo-hyun thought that Korea was wrongly created by pro-Japanese collaborators.”
The professor pointed out, “It is difficult to have a positive view about Korea as long as students learn history from the existing textbooks. The future of Korea is not bright with the current textbooks.” Then, he urged the government and the National Assembly to take action.
