On April 27, the Ministry of Trade, Industry & Energy released a list of 236 South Korean companies and organizations that are to accompany President Park Geun-hye during her state visit to Iran starting from May 1.

The economic mission is larger than any other in the history of the country. Back in October last year, President Park Geun-hye visited the United States with 166 entrepreneurs. The numbers were 156 and 145 during her visits to China and Mexico in September last year and early this month, respectively.

The economic mission consists of 38 large corporations, 146 smaller companies, 50 public institutions and organizations and two hospitals. The 184 companies consist of 36 machinery and equipment suppliers, 34 plant engineering companies, 26 in the medical, healthcare and bio sectors, 24 auto parts manufacturers, 20 consumer goods distributors, 19 in the energy and environment industries, 10 in IT and information security, nine in electrical and electronics and six in the food industry.

The mission includes GS Group chairman Heo Chang-soo, SK Group chairman Choi Tae-won, Hanjin Group chairman Jo Yang-ho, POSCO chairman Kwon Oh-joon and LS Group chairman Koo Ja-yeol. Among the heads of public energy companies, Korea Electric Power Corporation president Jo Hwan-ik, Korea Gas Corporation president Lee Seung-hoon and Korea National Oil Corporation president Kim Jeong-rae are scheduled to visit Iran with her.
