Quacquarelli Symonds, a college education assessment agency located in Britain, announced its assessment data for 2013 on September 9 (local time).

On the list, Seoul National University ranked 35th and the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) ranked 60th, followed by POSTECH (107th), Yonsei University (114th), Korea University (145th), Sungkyunkwan University (162nd), Hanyang University (249th), and Kyung Hee University (255th). Two Korean colleges were found on the top 100 list, six on the top 200 and 12 on the top 500.

MIT topped the chart and Harvard University, Cambridge University, and University College London (UCL) followed. The fifth, sixth, and seventh spots were taken by the Imperial College, Oxford University, and Stanford University, respectively.

QS’s college assessment was first announced in 2004. Since then, Korean schools have increased their presence there. Back in 2007, only Seoul National University and KAIST were in the top 200, but the number increased to six last year.

This year’s data was based on six criteria, including the citation per faculty and academic reputation, and QS looked into 3,000 colleges around the world to prepare the data. A total of 62,094 scholars and 27,957 corporate personnel management officials participated in the survey.
