CJ Group Chairman Sohn Kyung-shik met with Shavkat Tulyagavov, Deputy Minister of Foreign Economic Relations, Investments and Trade of the Republic of Uzbekistan, at Lotte Hotel in Sogong-dong, Jung-gu, Seoul, on Apr. 20 to discuss ways to expand their collaborative partnership. The deputy minister has been in Korea to attend an investment forum between Korea and Uzbekistan.

He said, “Korea is the third largest investor in Uzbekistan. Based on the mutual trust, the two countries have extensive economic exchanges. In a bid to promote the economic cooperation with Korean businesses, including CJ, Uzbekistan is coming up with measures to attract the active investment, such as tax benefits and other administrative support.”

Chairman Sohn replied, “We hope that CJ will seek new business opportunities in Uzbekistan to secure a global growth engine and help expand exchanges between the two countries. We will also actively consider the expansion of CJ Group’s various business areas, including food and logistics, into Uzbekistan.”

Meanwhile, Sohn received the Uzbek Friendship Order for promoting friendly relations between the two countries and contributing to the economic cooperation in 2011 from the Uzbek government when he served as the chairman of the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
