New Construction Technology

Hyundai Engineering & Construction (Hyundai E&C) announced on September 10 that it developed a new method to construct a caisson-mounted supporting structure for tidal current power generation. The new method reduces the time and cost for offshore constructions subject to strong tidal currents.

The method was developed by applying Hyundai E&C's new factory-fabrication multi-step caisson construction method to tidal energy generation. The newly-developed supporting structure uses a slip form method that completes construction of concrete walls while moving up the framework step-by-step.

The Korean company explained that it can now push forward with development of a large-scale tidal current power generation complex due to the new supporting structure.

A Hyundai E&C official said, "The development of the new supporting structure enables our company to secure profitability and actively participate in tidal energy projects at home and abroad."
