Incheon U-city Corporation, which is in charge of the urban informatization project of the Incheon Free Economic Zone (IFEZ), recently completed its process for the selection of network solution providers with regard to data center software virtualization.

The purpose of the selection is to realize a data center by software means by adopting cloud computing in each infrastructure construction process covering networks, servers, storages, etc. A total of four network solution companies were picked at this time in the fields of physical automation, virtualization, switching and storage.

The completion of the process is expected to give a significant change to the hardware-centered data center equipment market. The data center that is to be set up in the IFEZ is to become the first one of its kind in South Korea that is realized by software means alone. At present, the domestic Internet data center market is dominated by hardware suppliers such as Cisco, whose share is currently close to 50% in the domestic market.

The data center in the IFEZ is to be worked on by a number of firms. It is expected that their respective strengths in terms of software virtualization will be combined with one another for customized data center solutions.
