GE and LS Industrial Systems announced on April 14 that they signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with each other for cooperation in the fields of power generation, smart energy and smart factory solution. The signing ceremony was attended by GE chairman Jeffrey Immelt, LS Industrial Systems chairman Koo Ja-kyun, etc.

According to the MOU, their mutual cooperation is to cover the energy storage systems including eco-friendly power equipment, smart grid solutions such as micro-grid solutions, electric power transmission and transformation solutions, smart factory operation based on the Internet of Things (IoT), smart energy utilization and the like.

With the Paris Agreement putting pressure on countries and enterprises with regard to greenhouse emissions reduction, the two companies are planning to work on SF6-free 400 kV gas insulated buses (GIBs) and 170 kV gas insulated switchgears (GISs) in cooperation with each other.

In the meantime, GE Grid Solutions, which is a joint venture of General Electric and Alstom, recently developed Green Gas for Grid, alternative insulation gas also known as g3, with 3M™. LS Industrial Systems is expecting that its cooperation with GE will accelerate the development of environment-friendly switchgears that are suitable for electric power grids in South Korea.
