Samsung Electronics will start research and development of autonomous driving technology in earnest as part of its effort to strengthen its automotive application component businesSamsung Advanced Institute of Technology posted a job opening for researchers with working experience via the Samsung Group recruitment website on Apr. 20. It recruits three to five researchers in the autonomous driving sector.
An autonomous car is a vehicle that is able to navigate without human intervention to a predetermined destination over roads, based on sensors, like camera, and autopilot systems, including global positioning system (GPS).
Not only global automakers, such as BMW and GM, but also global information technology (IT) firms, like Google and Apple, are seeking to develop autonomous driving technologies as one of the next generation growth engines. However, Samsung is hiring new employees with working experience in a bid to improve the competitiveness of Samsung Electronics’ automotive application component business division, which was recently launched, rather than to develop autonomous cars.
