Boston-based consulting firm Reputation Institute (RI) ranked Samsung Electronics at the 3rd place in the list of “100 most reputable companies” in the U.S.

Samsung Electronics was named the third-most reputable company in the U.S. while the top tech giant Apple remained out of the top 100.

According to the online edition of Forbes magazine on March 30, the South Korean tech giant came in third with 84.4 points in the list of “100 most reputable companies” in the US conducted by Boston-based consulting firm Reputation Institute (RI). In particular, the company ranked as the most reputable firm in the tech industry for corporate social responsibilities (CSR). RI conducts its annual questionnaire online and ranks companies operating in the U.S. based on how the general public feels about the company in seven categories: products and services, innovation, workplace, governance, citizenship, leadership and performance.

Amazon topped the list with 85.4 points this year. It has taken the top spot for three years in a row. Hallmark Cards Inc. ranked second with 85.1 points. Kellogg Company, Sony Corp., Johnson & Johnson, Rolex SA, Intel Corp., Netflix Inc. and Walt Disney Company followed Samsung on the list.

Samsung and Sony are only Asian companies to make the top 10. Google Inc. fell from 51st to 70th spot this year, while Apple ranked below 100. While Apple has strong, and even excellent scores when it comes to products and services and innovation, it fails to deliver on workplace, governance and especially citizenship, RI said.
