Kooksoondang a Korean traditional alcoholic drink manufacturer, announced on March 29 that it has started its export first of “Daebak Saeng Makgeolli” and selling at PX Mart. PX Mart is the Taiwan grocery store chain which has 850 stores across the country.

The latest export and sales deal came through after the company started selling Kooksoondang Saeng Makgeolli at two stores of Costco in Taiwan in October last year and received a good response from consumers. Recently, Korean fermented food, including kimchi, is becoming popular in Taiwan and Saeng Makgeolli is also attracting attention.

Considering the short expiration date of Saeng Makgeolli, Kooksoondang exported 10,000 bottles for the first batch. The local price of Daebak Saeng Makgeolli is TW$229 (US$7 or 8,200 won).

Kooksoondang Daebak Saeng Makgeolli was first released in 2013. Since the product is made up of makgeolli-only yeast and traditional malt with the low-temperature ripening system, it has the distinct taste and freshness of makgeolli.

Starting with the first export of Daebak Saeng Makgeolli, Kooksoondang plans to expand exports by diversifying export items of Saeng Makgeolli. Kooksoondang Saeng Makgeolli is now exported to 15 countries, including the U.S., Japan, Guatemala and Cambodia.
