Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction, one of Korea’s leading power equipment makers, will work together with state-run Korea Electric Power Corp., or KEPCO, to tap into the wind power market overseas. The company announced on March 25 that it has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with state-run Korea Electric Power Corp., or KEPCO, to jointly develop, construct and operate wind projects abroad.

Under the memorandum, Doosan Heavy will be responsible for supplying wind power generators to overseas wind power projects won by KEPCO as well as engineering, procurement & construction (EPC).

As the nation’s only overseas wind power project developer, KEPCO obtained an order from Jordan’s National Electric Power Company to build an 89.1-MW wind power plant in the Fujeij area in Amman, the capital of Jordan, in December last year for the first time in Korea, having the overseas networks and capability for wind projects abroad.

Doosan Heavy developed the nation’s first 3-MW offshore wind power plant systems called “WinDS3000TM” in 2011. Since then, the company has been actively involving in offshore wind power generation projects and has won the nation’s largest supply contracts for wind power generation systems for both onshore and offshore sites. As of now, it is operating and building wind power plants that amount to a total capacity of 207 MW.
