Flagship models of Hyundai Motor and its smaller affiliate Kia Motors have entered the U.S. market.

Hyundai-Kia Motors announced on March 24 that it revealed the Genesis New York Concept sports sedan, the Kia Ionic full line-up, the Kia Niro and the new Kia K7 at the New York International Auto Show held at Jacob Javits Convention Center in New York on the 23rd (local time).

The two companies unveiled the luxury brand, eco-friendly vehicle and full-size sedan models in the U.S. market altogether for the first time. In particular, the Genesis New York Concept is a four-door sports sedan that is recreated with designs of the Genesis G90 premium luxury sedan, the EQ900 in Korea, and the Vision G luxury coupe concept. It is a hybrid powered sedan that uses an internal combustion engine and an electric motor at the same time. Also, the Genesis New York Concept generates 245ps and 36.0 kgf.m of torque from its 2.0 GDi powertrain coupled with an 8-speed automatic transmission. The Genesis brand, which operated its independent booth at the 2016 New York Motor Show for the first time, displayed two G90 models and a G80, the Genesis in Korea, as well as the New York Concept.

Kia Motors also showed the new K7, the Cadenza in the U.S., which is creating a sensation in the domestic full-size sedan market. The Kia K7 is its representative full-size sedan which has been sold 230,000 units at home and abroad up to now. Its new model will be released in the North American market in the second half of this year.

The two companies’ environmentally-friendly vehicles, the Hyundai Ionic and the Kia Niro, were also revealed. The Niro is Kia’s first compact hybrid sports utility vehicle (SUV) and is expected to be launched in Korea later this month. Hyundai Motor unveiled three models of the Ionic – HEV, EV and PHEV.
