The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, & Transport and the Incheon International Airport Corporation announced on March 22 that they conduct a demand survey and draw up a plan for the development of capsule hotels by next month before running 60 capsule hotel rooms from October this year.

The purpose of the rooms is to accommodate tourists who have to wait long for their flights at night or the like. The rooms can be used by the hour and the price depends on shower booth availability.

At present, the Walkerhill Hotel is running two transit hotels around the passenger terminal of the Incheon International Airport. Only international flight passengers can use these transit hotels and the price is rather high. Specifically, the standard room costs 45,000 won for a stay of up to six hours, 90,000 won for up to 12 hours and 120,000 won for 16 to 24 hours per person, in which the VAT and service charge are not included.

The ministry and the corporation are planning to price the capsule hotel room at 6,000 won to 7,000 won per hour. One with a shower booth is planned to be priced at 8,000 won or 9,000 won. For reference, the Yotel capsule hotel in Amsterdam Airport Schiphol receives 37,000 won for a four-hour stay and the First Cabin in the Haneda Airport charges 50,000 won for four hours.
