LG CNS, an information technology solutions unit of LG Group, has kept winning contracts in overseas transportation IT market.

The company announced on March 16 that it has won a new deal in Malaysia to build a bus information system (BIS) in Penang. The project is designed to optimize traffic flow and improve efficiency of bus operation by using the company’s smart technologies in some 400 buses in the island of Penang, the country’s third largest city.

LG CNS will work on the 20 billion won (US$16.76 million) project after forming a consortium with Malaysia’s Apex, aiming to start operating in August 2017.

The company obtained the order with its independently developed smart transportation solutions, beating global leading companies in the transportation IT sector, including Spain’s GMW and Germany’s IVU as well as Indra Sistemas S.A., the largest IT company in Spain. Accordingly, it has proved the excellence of Korean transportation IT systems again.

With the latest deal, LG CNS said it has secured a competitive edge in future biddings in Malaysia to win more orders. This year, the Malaysian government plans to invest more than 30 trillion won (US$25.14 billion) of the national budget in the construction of urban railways, such as line 2 and 3 of MRT trains.
