Ericsson said in the latest edition of its market analysis report Ericsson Consumer Lab that artificial intelligence can take the place of smartphones within five years. It is also said that AI can become a decent teacher and a reliable business tool in the near future, too.

According to the report, Ericsson conducted a survey with 1.1 billion consumers in 24 countries around the world and 85% of the respondents using smartphones answered that wearable devices equipped with an electronic assistant feature are likely to take the place of smartphones within five years.

In addition, more than half of the respondents who gave the answer said that they would be able to communication with home appliances in the near future as they now do with the other people. Ericsson explained that this type of communication will become possible by means of AI.

Consumers’ demands for a better utilization of AI are on the increase as well. It is expected that AI will be utilized in a wider variety of fields with time although AI on smartphones has functioned mainly as an Internet surfer, travel guide and personal assistant. 44% of the respondents of the survey said AI would become a nice teacher in the future.
