Google will release a news platform service, which helps distributing faster and more credible news contents according to the mobile environment, in Korea within 2 to 3 weeks. Therefore, people are paying attention to whether its attempt will have effect on the domestic news circulation market.

During a press conference held at Google Campus in Seoul on March 14, Richard Gingras, Google’s senior director of news, said, “Speed is an important factor that reduces users’ disengagement from news articles and that leads to profits. So, we need a service which makes sustainable news business possible and helps readers have confidence in.”

Previously, Google introduced “Accelerated Mobile Pages (AMP)” for the first time in the U.S. in October last year. Unlike the traditional method that clicking on news headlines in Google website directs to websites of news outlets, the AMP is a platform that improves the speed by directing to pages that is simplified focusing on news articles. With the service, readers can access to news contents five times faster.

In order to do so, there will be a limited amount of ads on news content. He said “According to a survey independently conducted by Google, 78 percent of respondents said they don’t use the new website if there are more than four ads in one internet page, while 60 percent of respondents said they don’t trust news from the website.” Through this, Google will help new news agencies secure new users with their competitive contents alone.
