It has been found that the Hyundai Genesis DH outsold the Mercedes-Benz E-Class in the U.S. car market last month. Specifically, the sales volumes were 2,532 vs. 2,362. Last month, the Hyundai Genesis DH ranked second in the mid-luxury sedan segment of the market for the first time in history, where the BMW 5-Series took the top spot with a sales volume of 2,758 units.

Hyundai Motor Company entered the market segment in 2008 with its first-generation Genesis BH. The current second-generation model failed to join the top 10 in 2008 but jumped to the fourth position in 2009, when the marketing started in earnest. It ranked between third and eighth in the segment until last year.

In February this year, however, the sales volume rose by 13.4% from a year ago and 62.4% from a month earlier to exceed that of the Mercedes-Benz E-Class, which was on the top of the list for six years in a row until last year.

Hyundai Motor Company said that the Genesis DH is scheduled to be renamed to G80 in the second half of this year and then its image as a luxury sedan will be further strengthened in the U.S. car market.
