SK Telecom (CEO Ha Sung-min) announced on September 3 that it signed a contract with the Zhongqing Group to participate in its smart classroom project in China.

The Zhongqing Group is a Chinese education IT company that provides its education services to over 20,000 schools across China. It is the third-largest class recording software provider. The two companies are planning to combine their educational solutions to set up smart classrooms in four major Chinese cities, including Shanghai and Yantai, by the end of October this year. At present, the Chinese government is in a project to advance its public education standards. The smart classroom project is scheduled to be completed by 2015.

The software solution to be supplied by SK Telecom is characterized by combining the functions of a mobile device management (MDM) solution and the smart learning solution named Schoolbox developed by i-KAIST. I-KAIST is a venture firm associated with the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST). The former is used to assist in the management of smart devices.

Using the software solution, a teacher can remotely control the tablet PCs of his or her students and give lectures and exchange questions on the tablet PC by means of the electronic chalkboard feature.
