According to Nielsen Korea, KBS TV drama “Descendants of the Sun” recorded a viewer rating of 24.1% in its fourth episode.
One of the reasons for the popularity is actor Song Joong-ki and the romantic lines coming out of his mouth. In addition, his masculine character is adding to its popularity as well. He finished his service in the military in May last year and had played pretty boy roles in most cases before joining the army. In other words, his character different than the previous ones is appealing to viewers.
The image quality comparable to those of films is catching people’s eyes, too. The production crew used 4K ultra high definition (UHD) cameras for the TV drama. Although the drama is not aired by UHD, viewers can enjoy it with a HD quality. The Descendants of the Sun was pre-produced in view of simultaneous broadcast in Korea and China and the schedule of review by the State Administration of Radio, Film & Television (SARFT) of China.
In China, the TV drama recently broke the 100 million view mark. It is being said that its popularity in China is because of the excellent storylines of the original work and many other factors.
