LG Display is working on a rollable OLED TV with a screen size of at least 60 inches. The prototype is expected to be unveiled at Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2017.

According to industry sources, the display panel has already been developed and the company is currently working with LG Electronics and LG Chem in order to design and enhance the durability of flexible components.

A rollable display is formed from a flexible plastic substrate so that the display itself can be rolled. Early this year, LG Display opened to the public its 18-inch rollable OLED display with a radius of curvature exceeding 30 R. The display showed improvements in terms of image quality and curvature from its previous rollable display panel unveiled last year.

LG Display has developed such products since 2012. The rollable OLED the company is currently working on is expected to have an ultra-HD (UHD) resolution whereas the 18-inch one failed to completely satisfy a full-HD resolution.

Experts are pointing out that a curvature of at least 5 R should be achieved before the commercialization of any rollable TV. LG Display explained that the key to the development lies in the level of curvature, durability, product strength and screen expandability.
