The Gangwon Provincial Government completed the Jeongseon Alpine Ski Competition, the first test for the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics, on February 7 and finished preparations for the 2016 FIS Freestyle Ski and Snowboard World Cup as the second test event.
The latter takes place for eight days between February 18 and 28. A total of 562 players and staff members from 31 countries around the world take part in the competition and thousands of spectators are expected to visit the venue, the Bokwang Phoenix Park, during the period.
The provincial government completed course preparation for the test event at the end of last year while installing various systems for snow removal and the like for the same purpose. Until November this year after the closing of the tournament, additional slopes and control systems are to be put to the final test.
“The event is expected to be attended by a large number of Pyeongchang residents and those looking forward to the Winter Olympics as well as skiers and snowboarders visiting the Bokwang Phoenix Park,” said Roh Jae-su, head of the preparatory committee for the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics.
