It has been found that the 100 or so Hyundai Tucson fuel cell electric vehicles, which have been sold mainly in California since 2014, recently recorded an accumulated mileage of one million miles.

According to Hyundai Motor Company, the Tucson FCEVs have prevented the emission of 385 tons of carbon dioxide by discharging nothing but water instead of exhaust gas while running.

“Hydrogen fuel cell vehicles with a mileage of over one million miles mean that these vehicles are stable and marketable enough,” said an industry expert, adding, “This can be a milestone for Hyundai Motor Company, which is striving to become the leader of the global eco-friendly car market.”

The automaker built the world’s first hydrogen fuel cell vehicle manufacturing system in 2013. In addition, in October last year, it discussed how to cooperate with the Department of Energy of the United States in order to expand the demonstration project and infrastructure with regard to the hydrogen fuel cell vehicle. The carmaker is expecting that the in-depth discussion will result in a significant increase in the sales of the vehicle in the U.S. over time.
