It has been found that Intel has headhunted a number of core developers from Samsung Electronics, Cisco, Synopsys, Qualcomm and AMD since last year. Intel is currently recruiting those in the fields of CMOS image sensor and wireless network chip development in particular in order to shore up its IoT business.

According to industry sources, Amit Baruch, who was in charge of Samsung Electronics’ R&D center in Israel, and his R&D employees moved to Intel last year. Mr. Amit Baruch was one of the best contributors who led the development of Samsung Electronics’ high-performance mobile CMOS image sensors. A lot of Samsung smart phones starting from the Galaxy S3 have been equipped with the image sensors he developed.

In addition, Intel has invited many developers from Qualcomm as its new vice presidents. Specifically, at least five vice presidents of Qualcomm responsible for intellectual property management, wireless connectivity solution development and the like joined the mobile and SoC development divisions of Intel last year. Earlier, former vice president Venkata Renduchintala, who was known as the second-in-command in Qualcomm, was headhunted by Intel as well.

Intel’s efforts for recruitment and M&A are likely to be continuing throughout this year, too. This is because Intel is eager to expand its business to sectors other than PC manufacturing.
