Korea Midland Power announced that Boryeong Thermal Power Plant Unit 3, with a power generation capacity of 500MW, recorded 5,000 days of accident-free operation as of 2:19pm, September 1.
“The world record is 14 years and eight months, starting from December 17, 1998, which is unprecedented in the history of power generation worldwide,” said the company.
Completed 20 years ago, the power plant unit is the first supercritical pressure power plant in Korea, converting water into steam without the process of boiling. In addition, it is the first coal-fired power station in Korea that the country designed, built and tested with its own technology.
It won the World’s Best Power Plant award from Electric Power International in 1998 and 2008. It has been granted the golden prize at the Asian Power Awards in 2008, too.
