Toyota is planning to unveil its fourth-generation Prius in Korea in March and release it before the end of the first half of this year.

Under the circumstances, the rivalry between the model and the Ioniq of Hyundai Motor is attracting the attention of many consumers. Toyota Korea said that it regards the Ioniq as another factor to assist in the expansion of the green car market rather than a rival.

The Prius made its debut in Japan in December last year. A total of approximately 100,000 consumers opted for it in December alone. Earlier, Toyota said that it was aiming to sell 12,000 units of the model a month in Japan.

The Ioniq’s popularity is on the rise as well. The presale kicked off on Jan. 5 and the number of contracts reached 950 as of late. “This figure shows that 62 contracts were signed on an average day, which is equivalent to 140 percent of our goal,” Hyundai Motor Company explained, adding, “We are planning to sell 15,000 Ioniqs in Korea this year in view of the pace of the growth of the domestic green car market.”
