SK Telecom announced on Jan. 17 that it will start selling its new budget smartphone, Sol, from Jan. 22, with pre-order sales slated for Jan. 19. The lowest selling price is 19,800 won (US$16.30).

The phone is planned by SK Telecom and produced by TCL's Alcatel of China. The Sol is a follow-up special offer model of the Luna, which is commissioned by SK Telecom, designed by TG & Company, a Korean mid-size company, and produced by Foxconn, a Taiwanese supplier of Apple.

The Luna means the moon, while the Sol means the sun, forming sub brands. Singer Seol-hyun from idol girl band AOA has been selected again as an official model of the SK Telecom Sol smartphone, after the Luna.

Weighing just 134 grams, the Sol is the lightest smartphone featuring a 5.5-inch full HD display in the domestic market by using special plastic case called polycarbonate. It is also thinner than other products. SK Telecom will also provide JBL earphones, 1400mAh large capacity external battery, which can be also used as a smartphone stand, and 32GB SD card to all buyers. The accessory package alone is priced at some 100,000 won (US$82.30).

The Sol is equipped with a 2GB of RAM, a 32 GB of internal storage, an 8 MP front-facing shooter, a 13MP rear camera and a 2910mAh non-removable battery. It is available in three colors – blue black, silver and gold
