Developing Tizen

Samsung Electronics holds a conference with Tizen developers in Korea on January 23 at its office located in Seocho-dong, Seoul. A large number of developers are expected to join the meeting with Samsung Electronics striving to expand the Tizen ecosystem to cover a variety of fields such as the Internet of Things (IoT).

The upcoming event is smaller in size than the annual conference hosted by the Tizen Alliance. However, Korean developers taking part in the development of the operating system are predicted to share much information with one another at the meeting. Examples of the information include application and service development methods based on the Tizen open source platform, software development kits and methods for personal information management. Also expected to be discussed is Tizen 3.0, the latest version of the OS.

In the meantime, the number of Tizen-based apps more than doubled last year from somewhere between 1,000 and 2,000 although the number is easily eclipsed by Android and iOS applications each exceeding one million in number. “More and more people are getting interested in the development of Tizen apps with the Gear S2 becoming increasingly popular,” said a developer, adding, “They are wishing to share more information with one another.”
