Wage Agreement

 

Kia Motors announced on Jan. 11 that its unionized workers voted in favor of a tentative wage deal reached with the management.

They took a yes-or-no vote on the tentative agreement, which came up on Jan. 6, on the day. The total number of workers was 31,091 and 28,514 casted a vote. In the vote, 18,346 workers, or 64.3 percent, supported the deal. 

Leaders of the labor union and management earlier agreed to raise the base salary by 85,000 won (US$70.45), along with a 400 percent bonus plus 4 million won (US$3,315) worth of incentives, 55 shares of company stock and traditional market gift certificates worth 200,000 won (US$166).

The wage agreement signing ceremony will take place in the Soha-ri plant on Jan. 12.
