Energy Project in India

Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction Co., South Korea's top power equipment maker, is pushing into the 1,000 megawatt ultra super critical (USC) thermal power plant market in India. A USC power plant functions at more than 246 kg/cm2 of steam pressure and steam temperatures above 593°C. The higher the steam pressure and temperature, the higher the efficiency of generation. Also, it is an eco-friendly high-efficiency power generation technology that can reduce fuel consumption.

Doosan announced on Dec. 28 that its India-based arm, Doosan Power Systems India Pvt. (DPSI), was chosen as the preferred bidder at the international competitive bidding for the Pudimadaka thermal power plant boiler EPC deal commissioned by NTPC Ltd., India's state-run energy service company, in August. It had been negotiating before finally winning a 1.1 trillion won (US$943.4 million) deal to carry out the construction.

Under the deal, the DPSI will build four 1,000 megawatt power plants in Andhra Pradesh, eastern India. The Pudimadaka thermal power plant will be the first 1,000 megawatt USC power plant in India.

The DPSI will be in charge of the engineering, procurement and construction of the project that will run through 2021.

Starting with the 1,000 megawatt Shin-Boryeong thermal power plant contract in 2013 where it is the supplier of the main equipment, including boilers and turbines, Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction has continuously succeeded in winning supply deals for the main equipment of the 1,000 megawatt-class thermal power plants in Korea that includes Gangneung Anin thermoelectric power plant in April and Goseong Hai thermal power plant in November.
