The Australian Trade Commission (Austrade) announced today that the ‘Australian Mangoes Promotion’ will be held from 24 to 30 Dec. at select Homeplus stores.
The promotion will run at all Homeplus stores and will provide consumers the opportunity to purchase quality Australian mangoes at a discounted price. Together with the promotion, a tasting event will run at 15 Homeplus stores from 24 to 26 December.
Australian mangoes are harvested from October to March. Mangoes are low in fat and a rich source of Vitamin A, Vitamin C and Beta-carotene. Mangoes are a great source of calcium and vitamins that are essential for good health, which makes it a perfect winter fruit.
Treena Welch, Marketing Manager at the Australian Mangoes Industry Association, said mangoes are Australia’s most popular in-season fruit. “Australians eat mangoes for breakfast, lunch and dinner, and at every moment in between. The juicy, sweet flavor and tropical tang are simply irresistible”, Ms Welch said.
As a result of the Korea-Australia Free Trade Agreement (KAFTA), tariffs on Australian mangoes have already been reduced from 30 to 24 percent in 2015. The tariff on mangoes will continue to decrease by three per cent each year until it is fully eliminated in 2023.
Brett Cooper, Senior Trade Commissioner at the Austrade Korea, said “KAFTA has already delivered more Australian produce to the table. Korean consumers now have a wider choice of clean and safe Australian fresh produce including mangoes, cherries and nuts.”
Korean consumers can now enjoy premium Australian mangoes at affordable prices, and demand is increasing every year. Korea’s imports of Australian mangoes have increased drastically, about 2500 per cent in value and weight over the last 3 years.
