Facebook Emulation

Facebook, the world’s largest social network, launched a ride-hailing service that emulates Daum Kakao’s Kakao Taxi on Dec. 16 (local time), in partnership with Uber, the ride-hailing service provider.

The service will allow users of its Messenger app to hail Uber rides directly from the app, without leaving an existing conversation or downloading the ride-hailing app.

To use the service, users must have the latest version (52.0) of Facebook Messenger installed on their phones.

If one is within a chat and someone sends an address, a user can tap on that address, choose "transportation" from the menu, and put in your request for an Uber.

Users can also share a map of the ride location with others. Ride status updates, payments and receipts are delivered to each user in a private chat message from Uber.

Since Facebook is still testing the “transportation” feature on its messenger, the service is only available to users in the U.S. cities where Uber operates. However, Facebook said that the number of its partners and countries that offer the service will increase soon.

The service will be offered with third-party services, such as Messenger Platform and Businesses on Messenger, that Facebook introduced at its F8 developer conference in March this year, the technologies that connect with Facebook Messenger.
