LIG Nex1, a leading precision electronics maker in South Korea, said on Dec. 7 that it has signed an 8 billion won (US$6.85 million) contract with U.S. defense company Rockwell Collins to export head-up display (HUD) systems for fighter jets.

The contract signing ceremony took place at the U.S. branch office of LIG Nex1 in Washington D.C. on Dec. 4 (local time).The ceremony was attended by LIG Nex1 President Lee Jung-sik and Rockwell Collins Senior Director Brian Wiebke. A HUD is a cutting edge avionics device which is used as a transparent screen panel in the fighter cockpit. The equipment presents information about flight data, speed, altitude and arms, and duty without requiring the user to look away from his or her usual viewpoint.

LIG Nex1 has manufactured HUDs since 2004 under the offset deal related to the F-15K aircraft purchase. After company met the requirements of delivery and terms of quality, it won an additional contract to continuously supply the products. With the latest deal, LIG Nex1 has posted more than 58 billion won (US$49.66 million) in the total amount of HUD orders.

The company is developing and producing various aviation electronics equipment, including HUDs, flight control computers, multi-function displays and arm control devices. It is also accelerating the development of advanced mission equipment to be used in future fighter jets.
