Kakao’s executives and employees visited the 10th Global Hope School in Myanmar to serve the community and promote cultural exchange.
The company said on Nov. 24 that its international volunteer team, made up of executives and employees of the company, went to a school in Dagon Seikan, Myanmar, to do volunteer service for nine days starting from Nov. 14. The team was accompanied by Good Neighbors International (President Yi Il-ha), an international Christian humanitarian and development non-governmental organization.
The 10th Global Hope School, which was completed in June this year, is located in Dagon Seikan Township, an industrial complex in the east-central part of Myanmar. The school has kindergarten and elementary school buildings that includes 11 classrooms, school office, computer room, video education room and infirmary. Earlier, Kakao signed an agreement to fund a total of 350 million won (US$300,558) to cover construction costs and sponsor schooling fees for children for three years from 2014 to 2016.
The employees’ of the company raised funds voluntarily by participating in company cafeteria operation and running charity bazaar sales. In particular, the company’s daycare center called “Space.kids” planned a bazaar for children in Myanmar and donated all the profits that exceeded 1 million won (US$859). They also distributed handkerchiefs with pictures drawn by employees' children to the children in Myanmar.
During the period, Kakao’s executives and employees also made animal masks and drew pictures to help develop sensitivity in the children. Programs like 3D movie shows and taekwondo and K-pop dance and athletic meet were also organized to let the children experience Korean culture. The local residents were grateful for providing a good opportunity to their children who do not have many educational opportunities to learn about Korea.
Through its donation fund named “Multi-value Fund,” the company currently financially supports six projects – overseas children education support project, the foundation for former global hope school, domestic children in low income families support project, children with disabilities rehabilitation treatment project, underprivileged group IT support project, Baekdudaegan mountain and wildlife conservation project and Jeju low income family support project.
