For Hana Tour, this November saw a 26.4 percent increase in bookings for overseas travel, 198,000 bookings in total.

Speaking of popular destinations in November, Southeast Asian countries topped the chart, recording 34.2 percent in total, followed by Japan (31.4 percent), China (20.8 percent), the South Pacific (5.7 percent), Europe (5.3 percent), and the Americas (2.7 percent). Generally speaking, in comparison with the previous year, the number of bookings for overseas destinations, especially bookings for Southeast Asia and Japan, increased, whereas those for China decreased, illustrating the increased popularity of short-distance overseas travel.

Bookings for countries in Western Europe dipped temporarily following the recent terrorist attack in Paris, but demand has slowly returned to the normal. Given that travel to Western Europe hasn’t been a very popular option compared to other destinations, the impact of the terrorism incident hasn’t proven to be severe.

By type, the demand for vacation packages steadily rose, posting a 22 percent increase in November. The demand for non-package travel options also rose significantly during the same period. Bookings for transportation passes increased by 99 percent; for admission tickets by 163 percent; for onsite tours by 80 percent; and for hotel stays by 49 percent. As autumn is also a wedding season, the bookings for overseas honeymoons rose.

As of Dec. 1, the overall bookings for overseas travel increased by 18.6 percent compared to the previous year, posting 149,000 cases. Moreover, with the temperature dropping, bookings for hot spring resort areas also surged.
