The Samsung Gear S2 smart watch is expected to be compatible with the Apple iPhone soon. In the smart watch market, which is dominated by the Apple Watch, the Gear S2 will accelerate the pursuit.
According to industry sources on Nov. 19, the screen to prepare its Gear Manager app for the iPhone appeared on Samsung Electronics’ app mobile home page. The Gear Manager app should be installed when using Gear devices. The Gear Manager app is not registered in Apple’s app store yet, but the preparation screen is connected to the app store.
As the Gear Manager app for the iPhone is almost prepared, the Gear S2 can be compatible with the iPhone as early as by the end of this year. Previously, foreign press, including SamMobile, also said that the Gear devices can be connected with the iPhone within this year.
In the smart watch market, the Gear S2 is expected to increase its market share. According to the U.S.-based market research firm Strategy Analytics (SA), Apple Watch dominates the smart watch market with a 74 percent market share in the third quarter, followed by Samsung Electronics with a 9.8 percent market share.
An official from the industry said, “Apple Watch led the smart watch market until the third quarter but the Gear S2 will change the market trend in the fourth quarter. This is because the model is receiving good initial consumer response, and the number of its users will dramatically grow when absorbing the iPhone users.”
