The Gyeonggi Center for the Creative Economy and Innovation said that high officials in seven developing countries visited the center on Nov. 19 and expressed interest in the center’s overall operation and new ICT convergence game, fintech and IoT industries promotion.

The officials included ministers and vice ministers of the ICT ministries of seven countries, including Bhutan, Palestine and Uganda. They visited Korea on Nov. 16 to attend the 2015 Global Information and Communications Technology Leadership Forum. On the last day of their trip, they visited the Gyeonggi Center and were briefed on the Korean creative economy model, such as roles, functions and achievements of all creative economy and innovation centers across the country. Also, they inspected the Gyeonggi Center.

After the briefing session, the officials asked how the central government collaborates with conglomerates and local governments in a bid to create the startup ecosystem, showing high interest in cooperative models with conglomerates.

Also, they looked around the Gyeonggi Center’s IoT lab, mobile lab, 3D printing lab and other facilities and asked detailed information, including operating expenses, management methods, selection processes for companies to take part in the center and support services. When introducing the fintech support center, they were interested in cooperative cases with other government ministries and institutions. After personally experiencing the virtual reality headsets of Volle, one of the startups in the center, the ministers and vice ministers expressed great expectations for its new product combined with artificial intelligence.

Nyombi Thembo, Uganda’s minister of state of ICT, said, “It was a very good time for us to learn Korea’s creative economy and ICT development directions through the visit to the Gyeonggi Center for Creative Economy and Innovation.” The Cambodian Minister of Post and Telecommunications also expressed his interest in operating a similar model to the Creative Economy and Innovation Center in Cambodia in the future and continuously working together with Korea, saying, “I think the center is a very beneficial organization to startups.”
