Korea is doubling its efforts to take the initiative in the world cyber security sector alongside helping Central and South American countries develop their information protection capabilities by holding cyber security seminars in Costa Rica and Peru. The Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Planning announced on Nov. 15 that they held joint seminars in Costa Rica and Peru from Nov. 9 to 13 (local time). The event was held as a part of the Korea Internet & Security Agency (KISA)’s Global Cybersecurity Center for Development (GCCD).

In Costa Rica, the seminar focused on the construction and operation of a computer emergency response team (CERT) to enhance the specialties of a CERT recently launched by Costa Rica. In Peru, the seminar centered on the establishment of and strategies for a national cyber security system is currently underway in the country.

The GCCD is planning to hold localized versions of such seminars in East Europe, Africa and Southeast Asia. On top of that, they will expand capability reinforcement programs operating courses to invite foreign students to Korea and train them in Korea, diagnosing cyber security levels, offering cyber security education and consulting and an anti-hacking training center.
