Coming to Seoul on Nov. 16, Global Entrepreneurship Week will be held at the K Hotel in the southern Yangjae district of the city to bring together experts in entrepreneurship from embassies in Korea, local startup accelerators, and international entrepreneur-related organizations for two days of knowledge-sharing and discussion on the latest entrepreneurship trends, policies and success stories.

On the first day, the Consortium for Entrepreneurship Educators (CEE) will share its experience in teaching entrepreneurship. Also, the Asia Conference on Entrepreneurship will meet to discuss the most recent entrepreneurship-related studies. Representatives from the Korea Entrepreneurship Foundation Research & Education Unit, Nanyang Business School, and the STEPI Entrepreneurship Business Unit will participate.

The second day will see a more diverse set of topics and speakers. Mariarosa Lunati, head of section of the Statistics Directorate of the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), will speak about entrepreneurship within the OECD. Xavier Cirera, an economist at the World Bank, will offer a diagnostic of digital entrepreneurship ecosystems

At the same time, Global Women’s Entrepreneurship Day will be celebrated by a special afternoon session open to teen girls to receive mentoring from global entrepreneurship leaders. Anne Höglund, ambassador of Sweden, will give a congratulatory address to the participants. Notables such as Professor Ji-ae Sohn will give a lecture about demanding society to be more flexible, and Dr. Ogan Gurel of Campus D will speak about women opening a way to communicate. Then the participants will be able to join one of four groups for closer mentoring. The event will end with a pledge for the future.

Also on Tuesday will be an entrepreneurship roundtable with representatives of foreign embassies that aims to explain positive cases of entrepreneurship ecosystems in their own countries. The participants will be available to discuss improvements to enhance entrepreneurship in both Korea and their own countries. A total of 10 representatives will be a part of the roundtable: Ewa Bulthez, investment and trade counselor for the Embassy of Belgium; Kim Yoon-mi, trade commissioner of the Finland Trade Center in Korea; Simon Richtmann, junior researcher at the Korea-German Chamber of Commerce and Industry; Mohamed Abdi Gello, ambassador for the Republic of Kenya; Kim Sung-sup of the Small and Medium Business Administration; Laura Selene Frias Rodriguez, the first secretary of the Embassy of Mexico to Seoul; Antonion Garcia Rebollar, economic and commercial counselor of the Embassy of Spain in Seoul; Christian Elias Schneider, head of science, technology & education office of the Embassy of Switzerland in Korea; Kendrick Liu, economic officer of the U.S. Embassy in Seoul; and Shay Feiler, first secretary – commercial attaché of the Embassy of Israel in Seoul.

Global Entrepreneurship Week is the world’s largest celebration of the innovators and job creators who launch startups that bring ideas to life, drive economic growth and expand human welfare. During one week each November, GEW inspires people everywhere through local, national and global activities designed to help them explore their potential as self-starters and innovators. These activities, from large-scale competitions and events to intimate networking gatherings, connect participants to potential collaborators, mentors and even investors—introducing them to new possibilities and exciting opportunities.
