Mirae Asset Global Investments announced on Nov. 10 that four exchange-traded funds (ETFs) of Horizons ETFs Management, its subsidiary in Canada, won “Best Fund” award at the 2015 Lipper Fund Awards.

Lipper is a global leader that provides information on 120,000 funds worldwide. Every year, the Lipper Fund Awards are given to the best funds based on result, safety and risk factors in individual classifications for three-, five- and ten-year periods.

Horizons ETFs is Canada’s largest ETF provider, which was acquired by Mirae Asset Global Investments in July 2011. The company provides various products that investors can use for their portfolios according to market conditions. It currently has 70 ETFs listed on the Toronto Stock Exchange and has 4 trillion won (US$3.46 billion) in assets.

Three out of the four awards were for actively managing ETFs, while the remaining one was for an index fund. However, all award periods were three years. In the index sector, Horizons S&P 500 Index ETF, which replicates the S&P 500 index, received the 2015 Lipper Fund Award in the U.S. Equity category. In the active sector, Horizons Active High Yield Bond ETF won the award in the High Yield Fixed Income category, that seeks to deliver high total-return income.

Horizons Seasonal Rotation ETF ranked top in the raw material sector, while Horizons Gold Yield ETF won the Best Commodity category, by achieving steady earnings by investing in gold and adopting a covered call strategy at the same time.

In addition to Canada, Mirae Asset Global Investments offers 167 ETFs to Korea, the U.S., Hong Kong, Australia and Columbia, managing a total of more than 11.1 trillion won (US$9.58 billion). The company saw an increase of 1.6 trillion won (US$1.38 billion) this year alone, showing steady growth.

Steven Hawkins, co-CEO of Horizons ETFs, said, “It is meaningful that three out of four awarded funds were active funds, and we have shown the fact that low-cost ETFs can bring excellent results if they are actively managed. Horizons ETFs will actively keep making use of global networks in the future as a part of Mirae Asset Group, and continuously release global products that meet the standards of global leading management firms and customers.”
