Gyeongsangnam-do, or South Gyeongsang Province, announced on Oct. 25 that its delegation to China, including Governor Hong Jun-pyo, made an official visit to Xizang and Shandong in China from Oct. 18 to 24, and expanded the export outlets for agricultural and fishery products.

As the first schedule, the delegation signed an agreement between South Gyeongsang Province and Xizang in Lhasa, Xizang, on Oct. 20 to have mutual cooperation in various sectors, including agriculture and economy. South Gyeongsang Province said that the agreement will expand exchanges, which have been focused on the eastern region of China, to the western region.

Regarding the result during the trip, Governor Hong said, “The MOU with the Lotus Group is the milestone that our agricultural and fishery products make inroads into the Chinese market, the largest food market in the world. When Korea and China become one economic community through the Korea-China FTA in the future, we will move toward co-prosperity with the local government, which we have signed the agreement with.”

In a bid to preoccupy the Chinese market, which is emerging as the world’s largest agro-fishery product export market, South Gyeongsang Province hosted an export counseling meeting in Shanghai in June. Also, the province will hold the meeting in Wuhan of Hubei Province, the center of China, in Nov.
