Korean Air is joining hands with a government-affiliated public organization to develop an unmanned aerial vehicle, which is considered to be the lion of high technology in the future.

The company announced that it has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the National Research Council of Science & Technology (NST) at the Seoul International Aerospace and Defense Exhibition (ADEX) 2015 held at Seoul Air Base in Seongnam, Gyeonggi Province, on Oct. 21 to establish a comprehensive partnership in developing and commercializing future high technology, including unmanned aircraft.

NST is a public organization under the Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Planning (MSIP), which supports, fosters and manages 25 government-funded research institutes.

The MOU aims to commercialize an unmanned aircraft high technology owned by the research institutes. The agreement includes the transfer expansion of technologies and research results possessed by government-funded research institutes, the cooperation in commercialization and research in advanced technologies, including unmanned aerial vehicles, and the support for venture and small and mid-size companies from the Creative Economy & Innovation Center in Incheon.

Under the agreement, NST will seek ways to transfer high industrial technologies, including an unmanned aerial vehicle system, and intellectual property rights owned by government-funded research institutes to Korean Air.
