SKT, KT Internationally Recognized for Wi-Fi Network Tech

KT and SKT were both recently recognized internationally for their Wi-Fi network technology.

KT announced on Oct. 15 that KT Wiz Park was selected by the San Jose Wi-Fi Global Congress as the best venue with high density Wi-Fi deployment at this year's WBA Wi-Fi Industry Awards on Oct. 14. The annual event is the only international awards ceremony, and this year marked the fourth Wi-Fi Industry Awards.

Korea's second-largest mobile carrier has been recognized for its Wi-Fi technology, receiving awards in the Best Wi-Fi Service Innovation category in 2012, the Next-gen Wi-Fi Leading Operator in 2013, and the Best High Density Wi-Fi Deployment in a Venue this year for its baseball stadium in Suwon.

Gigabit Wi-Fi access points (APs), three times faster than existing ones, are installed throughout KT Wiz Park, which provides an environment where around 200,000 spectators can access the Internet at the same time. By linking with native apps based on Gigabit Wi-Fi, KT is conducting various kinds of marketing campaigns, including broadcasting baseball games in real time, providing services for game registration via mobile phones, and mobile-based food delivery services at the venue.

SK Telecom, on the other hand, was recognized for its contribution to commercialize Cloud AP controllers, which manage data traffic by creating virtual servers for Wi-Fi, receiving an award in the Best Wi-Fi Network Infrastructure category.

The nation's largest carrier is expanding the use of Cloud AP controllers, as shown by their application to Jeju International Airport last April and the 2015 Gwangju Summer Universiade in July.
