Tizen in India

Samsung Electronics is aggressively marketing its own Tizen Operating System (OS).

Samsung Electronics Vice Chairman Lee Jae-yong's use of a Tizen phone drew a lot of attention, and he is said to be directly involved in the expansion of an ecosystem for Tizen OS. Hence, market watchers say that the use of Tizen OS will expand.

Samsung released the Z3 in India during a launch event for the second Tizen phone in Gurgaon on Oct. 14. It came after the successful launch of the Z1 early this year. The Korean tech giant is actively seeking to expand an ecosystem for Tizen OS, as shown by the introduction of the Gear S2 and other Tizen-based wearable devices.

The Z3 has features specialized for India so that consumers can conveniently use a variety of benefits that are only provided in the country. It features My Galaxy, an app that provides information about special offers in users' frequently-used fields, including fashion, movies, or tourism. The app also offers coupons for online shopping.

In addition, the Tizen device has a 2600mAh battery, and sports an ultra-power saving mode, which makes it possible to use the phone up to 33 hours even if the handset is at 10 percent battery life. It also offers an ultra-data-saving mode that can decrease data usage up to 40 percent, thanks to data compression and improved data management. The new Tizen phone comes in gold, black, and silver, and it will be officially introduced to India on Oct. 21. The Z3 will be sold for 8,490 rupees (150,000 won or US$131.09) per unit.
