Brazil Number Two

Hyundai Motor’s HB20, a subcompact model produced in Brazil, ranked second for the first time in the Brazilian subcompact car market last month.

According to an industry source, Korea's largest automaker sold 8,889 units of the model in South America’s largest market in Sept., just following GM’s Chevrolet Onix.

Due to the strong sales of the HB20, Hyundai Motor fared relatively well in the Brazilian market last month compared to its rivals. Even though the sales last month declined 21.7 percent from a year ago by selling 15,680 units, its market share rose 1.1 percentage points year-on-year to 8.2 percent, which placed the South Korean automaker fifth in the whole car market share there.

The HB20, which was first launched in Brazil in 2012, has been one of the best-selling models in the market, recording a cumulative sales of around 470,000 units by the end of June this year.
