As part of its “Mogam Lecture Series,” the MOGAM Biotechnology Research Institute (Director Choi Seung-hyun, www.mogam.re.kr) announced on Oct. 12 that it carried out a speech delivered by Aaron Ciechanover, the 2004 Nobel Prize Laureate in Chemistry and the professor at the Technion - Israel Institute of Technology, as its second speaker in the auditorium of the Green Cross R&D Center located in Yongin, Gyeonggi Province, on Oct. 8.

The Mogam Lecture Series is a series of special lectures by some of the world's greatest scholars on studies carried out by the MOGAM Biotechnology Institute in a bid to get an objective opinion from the outside world.

On the same day, Prof. Ciechanover delivered a talk about the importance and functionality of tailored treatments in modern medicine and the correlation between the protein degradation system and diseases, under the theme of “The Revolution of Personalized Medicine: Are We Going to Cure all Diseases and at What Price?” After the speech, he met researchers at the institute and discussed opinions of the ongoing studies of the institute such as drugs for anti-cancer and rare diseases and next-generation vaccines.

In the meeting, he said, “In research that deals with human life, compensation should never be the object. Through a pure passion for study that stems from thoughtful curiosity, I hope that ongoing studies will bear a fruitful result.”

Meanwhile, the MOGAM Biotechnology Institute recently scouted Prof. Choi Seung-hyun, who served as the director of structural biology experiments at the Salk Institute, as the head of the research center. Marking the 31st anniversary of the founding, the institute has revealed “Dare to Discover” as its new brand, and is preparing to become a leading research institute with global competitiveness.
