SK Telecom announced on Oct. 6 that its intelligent video recognition solution was certified by the Center for the Protection of National Infrastructure (CPNI).

The CPNI is the only authority in the world that certifies video recognition technology. It is the first time in the nation and the second time in the world that an embedded device-based video recognition technology was certified as top-level tech.

The nation's largest mobile carrier applied its own video analysis algorithm to the solution. By adopting a simple algorithm, the solution can operate without expensive hardware, so SKT was able to achieve both high performance and economic efficiency. Through this certification, the carrier was recognized for its superior video recognition tech, according to SKT.

Most existing video recognition solutions are vulnerable to false alarms caused by a change in the environment such as the movement of clouds, different sunlight conditions, or a car's headlights at night. To control false alarms, it was necessary in the past to use a complex algorithm and build additional high-performance hardware.

Since 2014, SK Telecom has been conducting research on the pattern and property of the movement of objects that are detected on a video recognition system in order to prevent false alarms. The company successfully verified product performance by applying its own algorithm capable of detecting moving objects that was developed in Aug. to a video recognition solution.

The carrier is going to use the certified technology in its video cloud solution, an intelligent video recognition service.

The video cloud solution is easily usable at small offices or stores, since it can store CCTV footage in the cloud server that is operating on its own security network. It is also possible to use the solution without a separate storage device. Recorded footage can be monitored in real time via a smartphone or the Internet.
