Samsung Hanwha Techwin?

Hanwha Techwin, formerly Samsung Techwin, will continue to put Samsung’s logo on its security-related products until 2017. Since Hanwha still has low brand awareness in the security sector, the company will be able to keep up business by using Samsung’s logo for a certain period of time and maintain the current sales levels.

According to business industry sources on Oct. 1, Samsung has allowed Hanwha Techwin to use the Samsung logo on its security related products until 2017. So, Hanwha Techwin can keep using the Samsung logo on its security products even after changing the company name in June.

Hanwha Techwin sells closed-circuit televisions (CCTVs), digital video recorders (DVRs) and Internet protocol (IP) cameras. These products have been produced and sold since the company was a subsidiary of the Samsung Group. Their share in the domestic market last year reached 32.6 percent, while the figure in the overseas markets stood at 3.8 percent.

Industry watchers say that it was not an easy decision for Samsung to permit the use of its logo even after selling the company. Through the “Big Deal” with Hanwha Group, the group sold Samsung Techwin and Samsung Thales last year, and they have otherwise cut all ties with Samsung after changing company names.
