Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Co. (DSME), a South Korean shipbuilder, clinched an additional deal during the Chuseok holidays to build two liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers.

The company announced that Singapore-based oil and gas transporter BW Group has signed for two 173,400 cubic meter LNG carriers in a deal worth US$400 million (472.6 billion won) on Sept. 30.

The vessels, 294.4 meters long and 46.4 meters wide each, will be built at the DSME Okpo shipyard in Geoje, and they are scheduled for delivery in the first half of 2019.

Also, the vessels are eco-friendly and next-generation LNG carriers, which use natural gas as fuel. They will feature MAN Diesel & Turbo's main engine gas injection (ME-GI) and the DSME’s natural gas partial re-liquefaction system (PRS). With the contract, the amount of orders that the DSME has won to build LNG carriers with ME-GI engines has increased to 31 ships.

So far this year, the DSME has secured deals valued at a combined US$4.3 billion (5.08 trillion won) to build 29 ships.
